SATURDAY MARCH 21st 2020

Saturday March 21st 2020        Coronavirus update: Children of ‘key workers’

Dear Parents,

Thank you for confirming with the school that you classify yourself as a key worker and that at present, you intend to send your child into school. Before doing so, please seriously consider the following points:

  1. At present (Saturday) over 100 children have been registered to attend on Monday.
  2. The Local authority have now requested that we make you aware that:
  • Every child who can stay at home absolutely must, and many parents working in the sectors deemed to that of a ‘key worker’, may be able to ensure their child is kept at home.
  • Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be.
  • Parents should not rely for childcare upon those who are advised to be in the stringent social distancing category such as grandparents, friends or family members with underlying conditions
  • Parents should also do everything they can to ensure children are not mixing socially in a way which can continue to spread the virus. They should observe the same social distancing principles as for adults.
  • As well as allowing key workers to remain in the workplace the measure of school closures is also intended to reduce the spread of the coronavirus.

Our staff are also required to abide by the advice to socially isolate wherever possible, particularly if they have underlying health needs, and this means we will be operating with a 'skeleton staff' in place.  If large numbers of children end up attending, we may have to consult with you in more detail, in order to prioritise those with greatest need .  We want to avoid a situation where our staffing levels are overwhelmed and we are unable to operate and have to close.

Before deciding whether you wish to still take up our offer of providing a form of provision for your child, I just wanted you to be aware of the large number of pupils who are due to attend school on Monday and give you time to make an informed decision. Upon reading this advice, if you no longer require our provision on Monday 23rd March then please contact the school office.

These are extremely challenging circumstances for us all and I am appreciative of your understanding and support.

Best wishes
