Year 4

Welcome to Thankfulness and Hope!
Fun Events!
The children were VERY excited when we had our first flutters of snow during a PE lesson! For many children, it was the first time they had seen snow or could remember seeing snow.
As the week progressed, the excitement built up with red weather warnings for North Devon for heavy snow.  They were delighted to experience the fun and joy of a 'proper' snowfall and snow day!
World Book Day
The children made a great effort dressing up for World Book Day!
The day started with a book quiz in the hall, which showed how well read many of the children are.  The winning team received a bookmark and a Percy Pig!
The children all designed a book cover for a traditional tale, for a competition.  It was a lovely, relaxed session and some fantastic book covers were designed.
Finally, the children wrote some 'switched around' traditional tales.  Lots of laughter was had when we used a book to switch them around, before writing our own!
Our wonderful topic of India started with every child designing an Indian batik pattern and then using hot wax and material dye to make their batiks.  The work was lovely and colourful
Whilst most of the year group were on our residential at PGL, some children stayed at school for 3 fun days of activities.  We did some camping, cricket and had a great 'Bake-off' day.  Each child designed cupcakes, thinking about flavours as well as decorations and flavours of buttercream icing.
Curriculum and Learning information
We have been learning about fractions: equivalent fractions and fractions of amounts.  We had fun exploring Cuisenaire Rods, which helped us to see fractions of a whole and begin to understand fractions of amounts.
